Pension claims get hearings

Local committees working on behalf of a government-appointed panel to decide the validity of citizen claims to have paid pension premiums of which the Social Insurance Agency has no record began receiving claims Tuesday at the agency's local offices nationwide.

The claims, which claimants may or may not have concrete evidence to support, will be scrutinized by the panel's 50 regional subcommittees.

People whose claims have been rejected by the agency in the past hope their pleas will be accepted this time.

A 75-year-old Chiba man who worked at a food company asked a local social insurance office about his pension records after hearing media reports of numerous SIA pension record errors. He figured his record would be perfect because he had never changed jobs.
